About Us

Department of English has been one of the prominent departments of the college before and since its inception as an independent department in 2010, beginning with an undergraduate programme in English language and literature. Since then Prof. PP John has been effectively leading our department. The learning environment is enhanced by the use of smart classrooms and efforts are taken to ensure that the learning process is innovative and progressive, giving due importance to problem-based learning. The MA course in English Language and Literature was started in 2012. The department imparts holistic education aimed at moulding students into socially conscious, academically efficient, professionally successful, and personally confident individuals. As and when possible, teachers of the department guide students to make the best possible use of both our library that has a very good collection of books and the internet.

The English department strengthens the liberal education of students by developing a deepened understanding of language and literacy, the value of critical reading and effective writing, and the richness of literature, past and present. We seek to foster knowledge and love of literature and language in our students. To this end, we will provide students in all emphasis areas with a coherent curricular framework. We will teach a variety of literary, analytical, pedagogical, and theoretical skills. We will teach students to speak, read and write effectively. We will encourage students to think deeply and reflect on what they have learned. We will encourage a love of learning and an appreciation for a liberal education
