History of St. Mary’s College, Puthanangadi
St. Mary’s College, Puthanangadi, was established in 1996 with the vision of providing quality higher education rooted in values, integrity, and social commitment. Founded and managed by the Congregation of the Fathers of the Immaculate Conception (CFIC), the college has been committed to the holistic formation of students, especially from rural and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Initially functioning as an off-campus centre of Mahatma Gandhi University in 2005, the institution achieved a significant milestone in 2010 when it was affiliated with the University of Calicut. Since then, the college has steadily expanded its academic programmes, introducing a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across arts, science, commerce, management, social work, and emerging disciplines.
Over the years, St. Mary’s College has earned a reputation for academic excellence, reflected in university ranks, student excellence awards, and consistent performance in academics and co-curricular activities. The institution places strong emphasis on value-based education, research orientation, community engagement, and employability.
A major landmark in its journey was the A+ grade accreditation by NAAC in 2024, affirming the college’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement. Today, St. Mary’s College continues to grow as a vibrant centre of learning, innovation, and service, striving to meet the evolving educational needs of society while remaining faithful to its founding vision and Montian charism.
