About Us
The Department of Political Science was established in 2019. It is one of the youngest departments in the college. The Department currently has a strength of three permanent faculties and one guest faculty. BA Political Science was started with an intake capacity of 40 students. Politics is the most democratic of all sciences as the final judgments concerning political reality and good life are the responsibility of all. In this background, the study of political science as a subject is extremely helpful in view of it being the key to the understanding as well as the possible solution of all problems facing us in our contemporary times. Study of the subject opens up multiple opportunities for political science graduates. Students can choose from various fields such as civil services, law, journalism, print and electronic media, entrepreneurship, teaching, etc., for advancing one’s career.
Our department offers‘Indian Constitution and Politics’ as a complementary course to other disciplines of the college. It is also significant to point out that the Department offers an open course on ‘Indian Government and Politics’ to other UG Programmes in the college. Our department gives adequate exposure to students by involving them in activities outside the routine classroom teaching. Educational tours; essay, debate and quiz competitions are some activities that are organized to enhance students’ skill and knowledge.
The faculty engages students in discussion and dialogue on various issues. The students are encouraged to take initiative to organize seminars, extension lectures, debates, camps, and declamation, etc. The department also arranges visit of students to legislative bodies as part of the course curriculum for them to have a first-hand account of the working of the seats of democracy. The grades of students in academic activities are consistently observed by the department and continuous effort to empower the skills of the students is done based on their individual capacities and talents.
