1.Webinar – Why are we launching satellites?

As a part of online academic year 2020, department of physics, st.marys college conducted a webinar on the topic ‘why are launching satellites?’. It was a milestone in the history of department of physics. This webinar was held on 25 august 2020 on google meet at 10.30 am. The chief guest and resource person of the event was Dr. Jishad M, scientist SD, space application centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad. About 89 participants registered to the program and 80 were online.

2.Online Onam

The dawn of 2020 was with the rise of an infamous corona virus. As a part of our online academic year stmarys college announced an online onam celebrations. Department of physics along with all the other departments, conducted onam celebrations online through google meet. It was really a new experience to the students as well as teachers. Celebrations was held on 27 August 2020. The programmes began by 10 am, all the students were online. students arranged various cultural programmes .

3. Essay competition – world Space week 2020

In accordance with the world space week celebrations 2020, department of physics conducted an essay competition for all the ug and pg students of st.marys college on the topic “satellites improves life”, on 5th October 2020 at 3.00 pm. About 24 students registered to the competition. All the entries were evaluated by prof. Thomas sir, HOD physics department.

4.A day to remember the Missile Man of India

On October 15, the birth anniversary of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, department conducted a commemorating ceremony at 2.30 pm. Through the medium of google meet

5. C V Raman Day – November 7

Department of physics celebrated the 132nd birth anniversary of sir CV Raman. Celebrated National Science Day on 1st march 2021.(Monday) Conducted a workshop on LED repairing and assembling on 1st march 2021 under the supervision of Mr. Sabir, resource person- energy management centre.

1.COMPLIMENTARY CEREMONY FOR OUTGOING STUDENTS

The department conducted a complimentary ceremony for the outgoing students on 20th June 2018. Beloved principal Rev.Fr. Jose Parayil was inaugurated the programme. The ceremony was held to appreciate the outgoing students for gaining best results in their examination

2.ESSAY COMPETITION

The department of Physics conducted essay competition for the students of St.Mary's College on 4th October 2018 in connection with space week. Topic of the essay competition was " Space unites the world" .RaniyaMusthafa of 1st BA English got the first prize.

3. NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION

The National Science Day was celebrated by the Department of Physics, St.Mary's College on 28th February, every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist sir CV Raman and for one whole week the physics department organised various programmes as a part of it. The first day 22nd February 2019, painting competition was conducted on the topic "scienceand technology in the 21st century ".

Next day on 25th February 2019, department had organized a quiz competition for school students. Almost 15 schools were invited for science quiz competition. 5 teams were participated in the final round. The third day, 27th February 2019, department conducted science exhibition for the students and the teachers of the college. Exhibition included working models, still models and experiments. It was a platform to scientific experimentation and innovation for building scientists.

The final day of science day celebration, 28th February 2019, was inaugurated by Ret.Prof.Thomas K. George and a seminar was conducted regarding the topic " communicating science for all" by Mr. Arun S. Nair who is a renown National Physics Olympiad winner and SCERT member. He interacted with the students about the evolution of fast growing communication and their importance in our daily life.

1.ANDROMEDA

'ANDROMEDA' wasa quiz programme conducted by Physics department related to science day celebration on 28th February 2018.It mainly focused on the significance of science in everyday life. Students from various departments were participated. Asarudheen and Shibin AK of IV sem BAHistory had bacame the stars of the event.

1.QUIZZARD

RThe department of Physics conducted a quiz competition named 'QUIZZARD' on 25th August 2016. About 80 contestants participated. Respected principal Rev. Fr. BinuPeediyakkal inaugurated the programme. Vishnu O.P and Ajmal p of 6th sem B.A English gained maximum points and they became stars of the event.
