NOSTALGIA 2021 was an incredible reunion of alumni, students, and faculty members of the St. Mary s college campus, Puthanangadi. The Meet conducted on Friday 22 January 2021 at the college seminar hall from 2.pm to 4.pm.It was the first alumni meeting of the department of History. Out of the 28 students, 18 students and 4 faculties participated in this program.Rev. Father Denny Cholappillil has inaugurated the programme. The students gave their valuable feedback and suggestions for the betterment of the institute and Alumni association.In this session, the college principal awarded the trophy to the top scorers. Rev. Fr. Varghese Kochuparambil (Administrator, St. Mrys College, Puthanangadi), Muhammed Safwan (Association Secretary),Rajeena Philip (HOD of the Department), Muhammed Rafi M (HOD Dept. of Political science) Sumithra P, Minimol P,Sari mol K (Assistant professors) were present at the occasion.

The department has arranged a carrier orientation programme for the final year students for two consecutive years.The first Session was on 5/08/2017 lead by MR. MUHAMMED MUSTAFA. K (Head clerk- Registration department). Our resource person talked about carrier prospects after graduation in histories such as journalism, LLB, and Human Resource Management. He also elaborated on manifold higher learning opportunities for history graduates in various central universities. Mr. Mohammed Mustafa delivered another session for the very next year's final year students on 16/07/2018. 40 students participated in each session.

The department of history is keen on blending creativity with academics. New trends and experiments of learning have always been accommodated by the department. As part of independence day celebrations, a group of 40 students from the department has presented a flash mob on the college campus on 14/08/2017.The history of the freedom movement from the 1920s to 1945 has vividly been executed by the students.

Two quiz competitions were conducted by the department during the year 2017 to enhance the historical perceptions of students. In association with Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, a quiz contest on the topic “ Life of Gandhi and his role in freedom movement” was organized on 03/08/2017. 10 pairs took part in the initial level of the contest and 5 pairs were selected for the final round. Later, a quiz on “Formation and Contributions of UN” was arranged as part of UN day celebrations on 24/10/2017. There were 15 pairs in the first round and after the first two levels, 5 pairs were selected for the final round.Ms. Rajeena, HOD of the Department of History was the quizmaster and she monitored both programs.

The Kerala piravi celebrations of the department encompassed two remarkable events. in the successive years of 2017 and 2018, the department has organized an archeological exhibition to generate an awareness in pupils regarding the importance of conserving and managing various cultural property. Students collected and displayed numerous artifacts made up of wood and copper, ornaments, weapons, coins, palm leaves, agricultural instruments, and homely utensils in the three days long exhibition. Herbal plants exhibition conducted on the same day contained around 60 herbal medicinal plants collected by the students from their localities. It was an honor for the department to have an eminent guest Dr. Sivadasan, (University History Department HOD)in the event.

A half-day seminar was coordinated by the department in the context of Human Rights Day. Our invited resource person Advocate Shibin articulated the importance of Human Rights. He spoke about several Human Rights issues and explained related constitutional laws which would help to reaffirm shared humanity.

The understanding of the pivotal role of films in propagating and shaping historyhas to lead the Department to conduct a historical film festival in December 2018. Apocalypto and two other short films were exhibited in the seminar hall. Students were assigned with writing the reviews

The department has arranged two study trips on 0/ 11/2019 and 30 \12\2019 to Kochi and Idukki respectively. Ramakkal medu, vagamon, kuravan kurathi mala, Marayoor were the Destinations for the first trip. The main attraction of the three-day-long trip was the ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayur date back to the stone age. The second trip to Kochi, the hub of interesting historical places, was a real experience for the students. .

Idappalli Kerala History Museum, Thrippunithura Hill palace, Thevara Museum, Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, St.Francis Church, Fort Kochi were the high lights of the trip. The students were accompanied by five faculties.

The Department of History in association with IQAC conducted a one-day workshop on craft and calligraphy on 24/03/2021from 10 am onwards in the seminar hall. It was a proud event for the department because the resource person for the programme was Ms.Haneena PT, one of our final year students. Her expertise in calligraphy, card making, and bottle art was shared with IV the semester students.

The very first farewell party of the department was arranged on 22/01/2021 for the 2017- 2020 batch. Students and teachers shared their experiences and memories. Junior students presented few cultural activities. Gifts and food were provided to the students on behalf of the Department.
