The department association SPINTA and IQAC have together organized a quiz contest exclusively for students of St.Mary’s college on 28/09/2020 at 2 pm. E-certificates were provided to the winners

Department of Commerce has been highly productive even during the pandemic period. Department has successfully conducted five webinars in the year 2020 with the possibilities of online platforms such as zoom as well as google meet. A webinar titled ‘WHAT WE CAN?’ was arranged on 19/11/2020 at 10 am, as part of observing National entrepreneurs day. An extended lecture was delivered by the invited resource person Mr. Shiyas KJ, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator from MIMS. Final year B.com co-operation and B.com CA students participated in Another webinar titled LET US INTROSPECT on 24/07/2020 lead by Mr. Ameer Babu ( Assistant Professor, PTM college, Perinthalmanna) considering the importance of guiding project orientation, the department has conducted two webinars. The first one was conducted on 09/12/2020 for final-year M.com students. The next session was On 17/12/2020 at 2 pm for VI semesters B.com and BBA students. Mohammed Riyas, Head of the Department of Al Jamia Arts and Science College, poopalam was the resource person for both webinars.

In association with IQAC, SPINTA has organized another webinar titled ‘ DESIGN QUALITY LIFE’ on 24/07/2020 at 11 am lead by academician Alex Johnson, Assistant professor from MIIMS, Puthanangadi. Scholars and teachers participated through google meet.

An orientation programme was coordinated by the Department for the first-year students. The department considers it to be imperative to help the newcomers to acclimatize and accommodate to the academic environment on our campus.The department has got Mr. AV Vamana Kumar, an eminent lawyer from the high court of Kerala as the resource person. He is also an Internationally renowned trainer and motivational speaker.

Carrier guidance is an essential aspect of academic training since it helps students to explore and plan for a fixed carrier. Considering the significance of helping students to choose a path of their own, the department of commerce has conducted a talk on job opportunities in the Banking sector on 26/ 10/ 2017 by Mr. Bharat Das( retired Gm, Kerala Gramin Bank, and JCI trainer) for sixth-semester commerce students. Another discourse on job opportunities was coordinated on 16/07/2019 for sixth-semester B.com cooperation students which were lead by Mr. Muhammed Shaheer ( Co-operative Auditor, Malappuram) On 27/08/2019 Mr.Muhammed Rafi, Assistant Professor of Commerce, WMO College, Muttil, addressed our sixth-semester B.com- CA students on the various courses and job opportunities after B.com. A disquisition was coordinated on 03/09/2019 by Dr. Umesh Neelakandan( Director, MIMS, Puthanangadi)on the various courses and job opportunities after BBA

As part of Kerala Piravi Day celebrations, the commerce association conducted a traditional beauty pageant titled Ms. and Mr. Malayalee. The first level of the competition was a general quiz contest and from a huge number of students, we have selected 10 students who scored maximum points as finalists to perform on the open stage. Students from various departments participated in the event. Finalists ramp walked in traditional Kerala attires and wearing appropriate accessories and make-up. Along with external appearance they were also tested on their personality through spot questions asked by the judges and the confidence with which they walked on the ramp. The audience was entertained by the enactment of popular film sequences by the contestants. A tableau of traditional dance forms of Kerala was also added to the session.

The Department of Commerce always propounded value-based education since it makes young adults enhance their social relationships and personality. A motivational class was arranged on 13/11/2018 lead by Mr. ThorappaMusthafa( Proponent of Retrofix Wheel Attachment of Cars). We have also invited Mr. Shihab, an eminent motivational speaker to give a talk to our students on 05/12/2019. Another remarkable programme was a talk on value-based education delivered by our invited guest Mr. Kishore ( Assistant Professor of Commerce, Manakada govt. College)on 18/09/2018.

Several seminars were organized by the department of commerce. It was an eye-opening session for the students of the Department o Commerce to attend a seminar on higher educational opportunities carried out by Dr. Vijaya Chandran ( HOD of Commerce, University of Calicut). A seminar on International Finance Reporting System was conducted on 04/02/2016 by our resource person Mr. Althaf( Faculty in International Skill Development Cooperation)Apart from seminars organized for the students, the department has facilitated a seminar on GST for the faculty members of our department. It was led by Mr. Mushtaq Ali( Assistant Commissioner in GST Palakkad DT)

An Alumnae meet was organized for the 2015-2018 BBA batch on October 31, 2020, at 3 pm. Rev. Father Denny Cholappillil has inaugurated the programme. 27 batchmates and teachers of the department took part in the programme and shared beautiful memories together.

The Department of Commerce organized an industrial visit for the 2017-2019 BBA batch on 18 November 2018. were Benchmarks chocolates and tea factory in Ooty were the destinations of the tour. 38 students were accompanied by four escorting teachers from the department in the journey. It was a great experience for our students to get first-hand exposure to the real working environment of industries

Each branch of the Department of Commerce organizes farewell parties for our final year students with all its grandeur. Junior students take the initiative of decorations and other cultural programmes. Teachers and students share their good memories and the whole college experience. Students will be given various gifts each year. The department provides food forthe day.
